Overview

Patiala , an erstwhile princely state, founded by Baba Ala Singh, is situated in the Malwa region of Punjab. Patiala is ideally located, it is 70 km away from Chandigarh and 90 km from the major industrial city of Ludhiana. It is famous for its Turban, Paranda, Jutti and Patialavi Salwar.It is also a place of tourist and cultural attraction having places of historical and cultural importance like Quila Mubarak, Moti Bagh Palace, Sheesh Mahal , Baradari Gardens and Bahadurgarh fort. Patiala has been an education hub as early as the 19th century as Govt. Mohindra college one of the oldest institutions of north India was established here in 1875. Today Patiala boasts of premier institutes such as Punjabi University, Thapar University, Government Medical college etc. It is also a major administrative centre as many major government offices and headquarters of Punjab State Electricity Board, Pollution board are located in the vicinity of this heritage city. Patiala is home to Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS), Asia’s largest Sports Institute. Patiala is also fast becoming a major healthcare hub with establishment of a world class hospital.
